…Waits for no man, so the saying goes. As it was going to be a relatively short visit to the Time and Tide museum in Great Yarmouth I decided to record some video to help jog my memory later on.
The museum focuses on the maritime history of Great Yarmouth, the herring catch, processing of the fish, and the lives of the fishermen and their families, and then the changes in Great Yarmouth from the world wars, and of seaside tourism.
My interest in the museum was mainly their reproduction of one of the ‘Rows’ of narrow streets that existed in the early part of the twentieth century. The Rows came about due to the narrow plots of land fishermen owned providing access to the sea. The land was eventually built upon but leaving very narrow streets between the buildings for continuing access.
The standard of reproduction is impressive, to say the least, and well worth a visit for this alone.
I’ll leave you with this video, which does little justice to the standard of the exhibit.
